As part of their new strategic plans, the management teams from the MICA-GA-PHASE-SA divisions have joined forces to research the “Livestock holobionts” theme.

Getting people to eat more plants is one lever than can be pulled to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. The latest IPCC reports set a target of global carbon neutrality by 2050 or 2070 at the latest. To achieve this goal, our food systems will need to begin producing more protein crops, as doing so is considered to be one of the most important ways to achieve carbon neutrality and reducing the overall environmental impact of agriculture.

The consortium’s objective is to develop an ambitious, multidisciplinary project to explore the drivers in the broiler production chain that can be used to keep animals healthy and promote the sanitary quality of the end products to ensure consumer health. This project will be developed around several hypotheses and an experimental design to confirm or refute them.

The HoloGrain initiative mobilises several INRAE teams whose work targets a particular stage in the production chain (pre- or post-harvest) or a specific issue. This network will make it possible to integrate the various stages and to follow a wheat grain holobiont throughout the agri-food chain.
